During the lesson, which is given in Dutch, Birgit will try to translate it into English or German. There is a theory available in the English or German language for special guests.
Birgit organized 2 times a year a workshop Mokume-gane, there is a possibility to invite her as a guest lecturer goldsmiths special techniques in art education centers or schools.
Two Saturdays in a row, this related to the labor intensity of making the Mokume-gane material, there can be produced a block Mokume-gane sheet material, depends on how fast you work.
You can registrate now that brings you on the existing registration list. With enough entries, the Workshop continues (min 6 people).

10:00 Reception with Coffee or Tea.
Explanation of this technique, distribution of information materials.
11:00 Plates of metal are sanding and put in a iron clamp.
13:00 p.m. The iron clamp with the metal layers are put entirely into the kiln, this takes the most time. While the kiln is heated, there is time for lunch, I usually make the soup, sandwiches must bring in own care.
During the lunch you also can go to visit the picturesque citty Zaltbommel.
Around 16:00, I hope the sandwiches (Mokume blocks) are ready and we can go home.
Once the block Mokume-gane is ready, depending on what material is used and how quickly the sanding of the plates went, it wil be forged by hammer, while the block is still warm, see pictures of Mokume-Gane Workshop bottom of this page! After that the Block Mokume-gane is ready to edit.

Explanations and information to bring about different patterns in the block Mokume.
The blocks are forged Mokume mixed with figuration application by drilling, filing, chiselling, etc. and rolled.
In between the block here and there to be corrected when using solder layers to let go.
There is no guarantee that a block mokume the first time will be successful, there are risks that some layers at the outside let go!

Mokume block size is 40mm x 40mm x 1mm or 0.8 mm thickness, depends on how many layers (9-11) of metal that are used to block Mokume. We work mainly with Copper, Brass, Silver, Tombak and Alpaca.
There can be made a block Mokume-gane ??with the following combinations:
Silver-Copper
Silver Alpaca
Copper-Brass
Copper-Tombak
Costs per plate 40x40x1mm or 0,8mm of base metal:
Copper € 1,50 pro sheet
Brass € 1,50 pro sheet
Tombak € 1,50 pro sheet
Alpaca € 1,50 pro sheet
Silver € 1,50 pro gram
There is the possibility to bring his own metal plates, but watch out if they are flat and not damaged too much!
